Gulfport teachers prepare for a new school year

The 2018-2019 school year is just days away for Gulfport School District students and teachers.

To make sure all faculty is prepared for a new year, all teaching and support staff from across the district will be taking part in informational workshops at Gulfport High School for the next three days.

The sessions include keynote speakers and hands on activities to help teachers make sure they are ready to handle any situation and make sure they do what is best for the students. Gulfport School District Superintendent Glen East said, “Safety is the number one factor. We are spending some time on that. We have always done it, but with the way the world is right now, it is even more in the magnifying glass. Kids coming from different homes, different lives, all types of things in society, how do we deal with that in the class room to teach them math, science, English and social studies?”

On August 8th, sixth and ninth graders will head back to school.  The rest of the students will join them on August 9th.
