Gulfport students network with community professionals

Soon-to-be graduates in Gulfport are taking skills they learned this morning with them to the career world.
A group of Gulfport High School seniors from the Academic Institute sat down with real professionals in the community over lunch at The Knight Nonprofit Center. The event was a chance to learn from local business owners, community leaders, and professionals about what employers are looking for, as well as learn additional skills that could benefit students in college and beyond. Gulfport High senior Tyler Loposser said, “We had the ability to learn about our financial skills and our credit and we kind of went through interview etiquette and most importantly learned about social media awareness and how different social media accounts can affect your life and your scholarships and school.” Gulfport High senior Ayanna Lombard “It really benefitted me in a lot of different ways. I learned a lot of things that I didn’t know and I really enjoyed it. I appreciated it a lot.”
The students also participated in mock job interviews and listened to speakers such as Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes.
