Gulfport Sportsplex reopens

The Gulfport Sportsplex is now open after being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While they will resume activities like tournaments and scheduled practices, a lot has changed. The bleachers are closed. The tournament organizers need to have a safety officer and bring sanitizer, as well as clean out the dugouts.

The sportsplex will also no longer be selling concessions which will cost them between $1,000 to $3,000 per weekend depending on the season.

No more than 100 people may be playing, coaching, or watching each game. LaShaundra McCarty with the City of Gulfport said, “We’re trying our best to have the facility open and allow things to continue to function, but be mindful of the fact that this virus is in the community and we can’t get so lax that it ends up spreading further than it has to.”

Reservations must be made prior to attending the sportsplex. They can be made by visiting the sportsplex website’s event calendar.
