Gulfport Sportsplex hosts inaugural “Swing in the Spring” to celebrate Opening Day and benefit Buddy Sports

It’s officially time to swing for the fences! The Gulfport Sportsplex hosts its inaugural Swing in the Spring event for their players to get in reps, sharpen their skills, and have fun before the season officially kicks off. Not only did kids get to warm up with scrimmages, but they also got to participate in mini games to accumulate points while hitting, pitching and running!

This event is much more than warming up and preparing for the season, but it’s also to support Buddy Sports which provides leisure opportunities to individuals with special needs.

“It’s our way to say we’re glad that baseball is back,” said Gulfport Sportsplex Marketing Manager George “Chuck” Patterson. “Glad that major league baseball is back, but we’re also proud of our local rec and travel ball teams and we just want to give them an opportunity to participate in an event life pitch hit run which is an MLB sanctioned and also shine a light on one of our favorite partners Mississippi gulf coast buddy sports.”

“We’re blessed with about 180 ball players and the sportsplex is a great partner. They allow us to play at a very economical rate,” said Keith Clark with Buddy Sports. “Our games are every Wednesday night at 5, 6, and 7, and what’s important to know is we need buddies.”

“We are definitely looking for more volunteers. The minimum age is 12, so if you’re looking for an opportunity to come out and volunteer for your community we play on Wednesday nights and you can find all of our information on the website,” said Buddy Sports volunteer coordinator Michelle Simon.

We hope all participants had a blast, now it’s time to play ball!
