Gulfport special election candidate disqualified
A candidate in the upcoming special city council election in Gulfport has been disqualified from the race by the Gulfport Election Commission.
According to our media partner, the Sun Herald, the commission initially qualified Derek Bullock along with three other candidates for the vacant Ward 5 seat, but ultimately made the disqualification on Wednesday, claiming Bullock has not been a resident of Ward 5 for the required minimum of two years before the date of the election.
Bullock and his attorney say they plan to appeal the matter, claiming that 2023 redistricting of ward lines in Gulfport should permit his candidacy.
The other candidates in this case are Holly Gibbs, Don Harden, and B.J. Sellers.
