Gulfport School District celebrates teachers for National Teacher Appreciation Week
All this week, schools across the country are celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week.
The Gulfport School District and community are spending the week showing their teachers just how much they mean.
Since Monday, local churches and businesses have donated several meals to the staff at all the schools in the district.
Today at Gulfport High School, Brooklyn Pizza was donated by a local law firm while Chick-Fil-A donated nuggets and cookies and the culinary department cooked sushi and fried rice.
Transition Counselor Sara Farragut says it is important to celebrate teachers every chance you get. “I think teachers are very underappreciated in general so it’s really neat any time we can do this. I wish we could do it more than just one week but we really wanted to make this special and let them know they are seen and we are grateful for everything they do for students.”
Students at Gulfport High also want to make sure their teachers feel the love this week. Freshman Chance Gaines said, “If they don’t feel appreciated-then they don’t like coming to their job every day. You have to make them feel special, because they’re doing us a favor. They’re trying to give us an education so that’s why you have to make sure they don’t mind coming to work every day.”
