“Gulfport Rising” vision introduced to Gulfport School District which includes plan for on-site Football Field!
During Gulfport School District’s meeting on Monday, Athletic Director Matt Walters presented a very detailed vision that aims to improve not just the school, but the community as a whole. Introducing what he calls, “Gulfport Rising.”
“We’ve laid out a vision, four phases of a project, that is going to incorporate having a high school football stadium on campus, which I do believe is long overdue,” said Athletic Director Matt Walters. “Coach Pennock said it best, Milner has a lot of great history and it’s done fantastic for the Gulfport School District, but just to give the kids something on campus that they can call their own is just special for me to be able to do that. The addition to maybe having a natatorium within walking distance for our kids and then bowling lanes and pickle ball courts and a powerlifting facility when our powerlifting team has been so special, and the opportunity for our cheerleaders to have something. Just to be able to give something to everyone of our kids to be able to call their own on campus is great.”
“To see all the hard work that has gone in from so many people within the school district and the city, the athletic director and myself, to see the whole thing kind of come to fruition and now the plans actually coming into reality, it’s now time to put boots to the ground and get to work here soon,” said Head Football Coach Blake Pennock. “This is the investment. This is the investment you want knowing that our guys are going to play hard and it’s going to get so many opportunities for not only our football player, but to our band members and the things we’re going to be able to host in the other areas of our stadium and all of that kind of stuff throughout the city. It’s just a really exciting time for the school district to take that leap forward going to the next step.”
WXXV News 25 will continue to report on the actions and decisions made throughout the “Gulfport Rising” process. What an exciting day and an exciting future for the Gulfport School District!
