Gulfport residents meet to discuss potential Boys and Girls Club expansion
Gulfport residents gathered at the 19th Street Community Center for a community meeting.
Some parents in ward one are interested in welcoming a Boys and Girls Club site to the area to hopefully accommodate families and prevent students from having to commute to the Forrest Heights location for after school services.
Club CEO Keva Scott says the idea started expressing interest. The club conducted a need assessment and consulted with the city as well as local law enforcement about the possibility of the new addition. “We’re excited to provide a safe place for kids to be while their parents are at work. That really is what this center is about. It came from a parent need and then we all worked together as those who under guard and support our community.”
After the meeting if the general consensus is to still move forward then the new club site could be up and running as early as the summer.
