Gulfport resident celebrates 106th birthday
Miss Cora Phillips had her celebration of 106 years with her loved ones and friends in Gulfport Sunday evening at VFW Post 4526.
Her family celebrated with lots of hugs and good music. Phillips was born on September 10th, 1917 in Alabama, eventually moving to Gulfport in 1972 with her husband.
Phillips raised four children and many grand children and great grandchildren throughout her life. She worked as a school and nursing home cook, being a strong woman of faith and raising her family.
Phillips says reaching 106 is truly a blessing and an indescribable feeling of joy. “I can’t explain it. I just feel so wonderful, so happy to be with friends, those I don’t know, those I’ve met seem so friendly with a big smile. I tell you one that that you want to hear treat people right, love people, meet them with a smile, and always say hello.”
