Gulfport Rape Suspect Arrested
Gulfport Police arrested the man suspected of sexually assaulting a 78-year-old woman Sunday night.
Police made the arrest at a residence on 26th Street in Gulfport. Forty-four year-old Deltber Keyes is charged with kidnapping, rape and robbery.
Police responded to a report of rape on 25th Street late Sunday. The victim told investigators she went outside to her front yard after hearing suspicious noises. At the time, Keyes forced the victim back into her residence, raped her and fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
Gulfport PD tells News 25 the community played a critical part in leading to the arrest of Keyes. Deputy Chief of Police Chris Loposser said, “This arrest in whole is generated from a tip we got from a community member. This absolutely exemplifies why the community and the police work together hand in hand.”
Keyes is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $1 million bond.
