Gulfport quarterback to play running back at USM

Gulfport quarterback TQ Newsome has committed to Southern Miss as first reported by the Sun Herald.

According to that story, the rising senior will likely play running back at USM, having rushed for more than 900 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2017 despite missing some time due to injuries.

Assuming he does go on to sign with the Golden Eagles, Newsome will become the first player from the Gulf Coast to do so since Biloxi’s Damion Fletcher back in 2006.

Newsome is picking the Black and Gold over other division I offers from the likes of Kansas and South Alabama.
