Gulfport Prepares for Annual Softball Classic

The City of Gulfport is preparing for their annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic.

The games will be held February 27th and 28th at the Gulfport Sportsplex. Five N.C.A.A. Division 1 softball teams will play, including Southern Miss, as well as over 50 high school teams from all over the state. Over 6,800 people attended the classic last year and the event brought in $1 million of revenue to the city. Officials are expecting an even bigger turnout this year.

David D’Aquilla, Leisure Services Director for Gulfport, says, “Obviously we get people coming into town. College teams usually come in for multiple days. The high schools come in over the course of the weekend. We put heads in beds and people into restaurants. The main thing that we see from this is it brings Division 1 caliber softball to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”

Tickets will be sold for $10 daily or $15 for a weekend pass.
