Gulfport police warning against pine straw scam

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Gulfport police are alerting the public about a pine straw scam making the rounds.

Police say a scammer offers pine straw for $10 per bale. When the delivery is made, the scammers demand a much higher price.

This is usually hundreds more than agreed upon.

Scammers are mostly targeting older residents, but officers ask the public to call their non-emergency line if you see any suspicious activities or have been a victim.
