Gulfport Police searching for suspects in December shooting death

Gulfport Police are searching for three suspects in an December shooting incident that left a woman dead and a man injured.

On December 17, 2023, Gulfport Police responded to a homicide in the 3300 block of 39th Avenue.

At the time, police learned an unidentified suspect had fired a rifle, hitting the victim three times. Another suspect, identified by police as Jaleal Montrez Malone, fired and struck an occupied apartment, hitting Donna Perkins, who was lying in her bedroom. She died as a result of the shooting.

In reviewing surveillance video, detectives saw an unreported shooting on December 17 at about 10:27 a.m. They developed 20-year-old Ezequal Simmons, 19-year-old Jaleal Malone, two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old as suspects who were firing weapons that struck several apartments.

The 17-year-olds were arrested on December 18 and December 21. Both were charged as adults with shooting into an occupied dwelling.

The remaining three suspects at-large have active warrants and are considered armed and dangerous.
