Gulfport Police searching for 16-year-old suspect in drive-by shooting

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — Gulfport Police are looking for a teenager believed to be the shooter in a drive-by shooting nearly two weeks ago.

On Thursday, August 26, 2021, just after 12:00 noon, the Gulfport Police Department responded to the 3900 block of Sierra Drive in reference to a drive-by shooting.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives discovered the suspect, identified as John Fitzgerald Appleton Jr., fired a gun multiple times toward a group of people while in a moving vehicle.

The shooting is believed stemmed from an altercation that occurred earlier in the day.

Appleton Jr. has an active felony warrant for his arrest and his bond was set at $150,000.

Appleton Jr. is described to police officers as a 16-year-old black male, approximately 6’04”, 170 lbs., with black hair, and brown eyes.

Appleton Jr. was last seen occupying a green Honda sedan with front end damage.
