Gulfport Police Increase Presence for “Operation Clear the Track”
For those of you who have plans to drive anywhere in Gulfport on Tuesday, you may want to use a little more caution at the city’s railroad crossings, and don’t be surprised if you see more of a police presence in these areas. That’s because the Gulfport Police Department is taking part in a nationwide railroad crossing safety initiative today called “Operation Clear the Track” as part of Rail Safety Week.
Police will be parked and keeping a close eye out for drivers who disregard and violate railroad crossing laws at various railroad crossings throughout the city today and will be issuing tickets and warnings to violators. Police will also be giving out railroad safety cards and information to drivers and pedestrians.
It’s all geared toward raising railroad crossing safety and awareness with the overall goal of saving lives.
