Gulfport Police Department offering gun safety resources

The Gulfport Police Department is now offering free gun locks for gun owners.

The locks are available upon request at the front desk at the Gulfport Police headquarters. It all comes after multiple accidental shootings in the past year.

The department is also gearing up for its basic firearm safety class later this month. Gulfport Police PIO Lt. Jason Ducre said, “We had a lot of people come into the police department asking for gun locks because we are a police department. So, we decided to partner with Project Child Safe, and they provide the locks, and we can give them out for free. They provided 41 million locks to different law enforcement agencies. We have a two-day gun class. It’s a basic firearm safety class, and the first day is going to be all classroom, second day is range day. It’s a three-hour class, and it’s $25 per person.”

The class will have up to 12 slots for Gulfport residents. Call 228-868-5703 for more information.
