Gulfport Police Department hosting Citizen Academy
The Gulfport Police Department is hosting their first Citizen Academy since 2019 this year.
The academy will run for three consecutive Thursdays in November on the 2nd, 9th, and 16th beginning at 6 p.m.
In this academy, the police department invites citizens behind the scenes. They’ll learn about their duties, see the police station, and more.
Community Relations and Crime Prevention Specialist Tiffany Power explains how this academy benefits the police and the public. “We’ve noticed that education is one of the most important things to foster communication between the police department and the public. And to kind of squash those misconceptions and miscommunications every day. We’re going to try to answer lots of questions that the citizens have about what we do, what kind of services we provide as a department. They can come in and open that communication. We can be transparent with the community.”
