Gulfport PD swears in new Police Chief Adam Cooper

Gulfport Police Department’s new chief was officially sworn into office this morning.

Chief Adam Cooper took his oath of office with his wife Melinda by his side inside of the Centennial Plaza chapel.

The room was filled with support from fellow law enforcement agencies as well as local politicians and family of Cooper and others.

Chief Cooper’s first day in office was May 1st. Now that he’s officially sworn in, he’s eager to begin focusing on making Gulfport better.

One way he hopes to build stronger connections within the community is strengthening the relationship the department has with community partners. Chief Cooper said, “We can’t arrest our way out of where we are. We need the help from all our community partners to help make this a better place. We can’t just put people in jail. We need to get them help and get responsible help from people wanting to get the mission accomplished.”

The first female Deputy Chief of Police Heather Dailey was also sworn into office. Dailey and Cooper worked together in the department’s criminal investigations unit over 20 years ago.
