Gulfport officer injured overseas

A Gulfport police officer who is deployed overseas was significantly injured during military action.

Officer Manuel Santos is a tech sergeant in the Mississippi Air Guard. He sustained a severe concussion, lacerations, as well as neck and back injuries. He is now in Germany receiving treatment.

Officer Santos is 25-years-old and has been with the Gulfport Police Department for two years, serving on patrol and with the SWAT team. He was recently awarded the Police Cross and officer of the month for rescuing three small children from a burning vehicle.
