Gulfport native named Navy’s Sailor of the Quarter

A Gulfport native has been named Senior Sailor of the Quarter aboard the Wasp-class USS Iwo Jima on February 21.

Norkita McDonald has received the honor.

The Navy’s Sailor of the Quarter program recognizes sailors for outstanding character, dedication, and going above and beyond their duties.

McDonald has served in the Navy for 18 years and is a 2005 graduate of Gulfport High School.

She serves as an aviation ordinanceman.

McDonald says she joined the Navy to make her own path, be independent, and travel the world.
