Gulfport mayor ends mandatory curfew in city
Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes on Friday ended the mandatory curfew that has been in effect since March 31.
The curfew ran from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. It expires as of 5 p.m. today.
Hewes ordered the curfew originally in March as the number of COVID-19 cases began to rise. In an effort to curb exposure, the city-wide curfew was implemented.
As of April 29, there were more than 6,800 cases reported in the state, with more than 260 deaths reported.
The orders also urge residents to continue following the issuance of the governor’s ‘safer at home’ order put in place for Mississippi as well as the City of Gulfport.
