Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes on Hurricane Ida response

The impacts of Hurricane Ida in the City of Gulfport were made known over the past day.

News 25 spoke with Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes. He said, “Mississippians are known to be some of the most generous people in the world. What we saw in Katrina created a pay it forward moment for us. We had so much good come from folks. What I like to say is that we see the worst in Mother Nature and the best in humanity, but it helped us come back quicker and better because of the resolve people show and reach out and take care of each other.”

Gusts of wind in Downtown Gulfport reached the 70s.
