Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes not seeking fourth term as mayor

Gulfport city officials have confirmed to News 25 that Mayor Billy Hewes will not be seeking re-election for a fourth mayoral term.

Mayor Hewes was first elected as the city’s mayor in 2013, currently serving his third term as the coastal city’s chief executive.

During his time in office, he has overseen many projects including the Mississippi Aquarium and the revitalization of Jones Park.

He has also played a key role in the growth of the blue economy on the Coast.

Hewes has amassed decades of public service, not only as the mayor of Gulfport, but also serving 20 years in the Mississippi Legislature prior to his time as mayor.

Hewes will remain the mayor of Gulfport until July of 2025, meaning we are about a year out from the next mayoral election.
