Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes gives annual business update

Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes spent the morning celebrating Gulfport’s accomplishments.

He gave his annual business update a few hours ago in front of a sold-out crowd at Island View Casino and Resort.

Mayor Hewes spent most of his time discussing the successes of not only the Gulfport chamber, but of the city as a whole these past two years.

Last year, the meeting was held on Zoom and Mayor Hewes said he is more than happy to be back in person to tout the city’s progress, including the development of Centennial Plaza, the Mississippi Aquarium, and the continuation of the Harbor Lights Winter Festival. “I’m very excited. That’s one reason why I decided to seek another term was because the opportunity we have and the resilience. The support of our folks, our residents, our business community really is the differentiator particularly compared to other communities. Our folks understand what a great place Gulfport is.”

Mayor Hewes says the city is also working on a project that would bring a mixed-use development to the corner of Highway 49 and Highway 90.
