A Gulfport man will spend the rest of his life in prison after admitting to stabbing a man to death in 2022.

District Attorney W. Crosby Parker said 44-year-old Christopher Moore pleaded guilty last week to killing 63-year-old Darrell Parker in August of 2022.

Circuit Court Judge Lisa Dodson sentenced Moore to life.

Gulfport Police were called to a home on St. Charles Street in response to calls about a stabbing. Two roommates called police to the halfway house and found Parker in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds and two broken knives next to the body.

An investigation showed that a witness saw Moore behind the victim with his arms around his neck and stabbing him repeatedly while holding the victim in a headlock.

Moore attempted to justify his actions based upon self-defense, but the evidence collected by Gulfport Police did not uphold his claim.

Dodson told Moore, “You cannot take the law into your own hands” during the sentencing.

“I am so very sorry, Your Honor. I wish I could sit down with this man’s family and give them closure,” Moore said. “I wish I could relive that day.”
