Gulfport man sentenced to life for murder at gas station

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- A Gulfport man has been sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder.

Forty-seven-year-old John William Anderson was convicted for the killing of Jeneation Lewis. He was also convicted of being in possession of a weapon after having a felony conviction.

On October 11th, 2022, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office was called to a gas station at the corner of Highway 53 and County Farm Road for a shooting. When deputies arrived, they found Lewis in the car suffering from two gunshot wounds to his head.

Deputies found a cell phone next to Lewis and were able to determine that Lewis had agreed to meet someone named ‘Jhn’ at the same gas station.

Witnesses gave law enforcement a description of the person they saw at Lewis’ car at the time of the shooting and of the vehicle the suspect was in.

During the investigation, authorities were able to determine that the phone number for ‘Jhn’ was registered to Anderson.

Law enforcement arrested Anderson and searched his house and property and found a handgun on Anderson’s property.

Anderson was sentenced to the maximum penalty of life in custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for the murder and ten years for the weapon charge. Those sentences will run consecutive for a total of life plus ten years.
