Gulfport man pleads guilty to armed robbery

Jayveon Leontae Palmore

Gulfport, Miss – District Attorney W. Crosby Parker announced that, 20-year-old Jayveon Leontae Palmore, of Gulfport, MS, pled guilty earlier this week to Armed Robbery.

Circuit Court Judge Randi Mueller sentenced Palmore to 20 years, suspended 10 years, leaving 10 years to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Palmore was also placed 5 years on post-release supervision upon his release from prison.

The case was initiated on October 31, 2019, when the victim called 911 for help. The victim advised the police that he pulled up to an ATM machine on Courthouse Road when someone walked out from some nearby bushes, pointed a handgun at the victim, and demanded money. The victim then accelerated his vehicle to get away. As the victim was driving away, the suspect shot twice, striking the windshield and the driver-side pillar.

The victim was able to provide police with a description of the suspect and the clothing the suspect was wearing at the time.

Officers from the Gulfport Police Department were able to obtain surveillance video from the bank and disseminated a description of the suspect.

“While searching the surrounding area the next morning, the Gulfport Police noticed a broken window in a building less than a block from the bank. A Gulfport K9 unit was sent into the building, and ultimately located the defendant the inside the building hiding in a storage closet. Officers also located clothing matching the description given by the victim, and a handgun near where Palmore was hiding,” said Assistant District Attorney Patti Simpson who prosecuted the case.

During the sentencing hearing, the victim thanked Gulfport Police Department for their quick apprehension of the defendant and explained how the crime had impacted his life.

The defendant apologized to the victim and told the Court that he didn’t remember anything that happened that night because he had been under the influence of spice. While acknowledging the defendant’s remorse and lack of prior criminal history, Judge Mueller informed the defendant his dangerous conduct cannot be overlooked.
