Gulfport man joins Team Reba on ‘The Voice’

A Gulfport man earned a one-chair turn and joined Team Reba on Monday night’s blind auditions of The Voice.

The NBC singing competition show had Deon Jones singing his version of Donnie Hathaway’s “Little Ghetto Boy.”

Jones was on the second-to-last night of blind auditions and said he was blessed to join Reba McIntyre, who won the competition last year in her first season.

“I am over the moon about making a team,” Jones said. “I’m so excited to be on this show. It’s like a manifestation come true, and to have your calling and your gift be pushed out for the world to see is such a blessing.

“What excites me the most about Reba is Reba is the queen. I’m so grateful to her, taking a chance on me, seeing me, hearing me, allowing me to be on her team. I’m so excited to be coached by her, to learn so much, and I just want to be a sponge and take it all in and really take this to the next level.”

According to his Facebook page, Deon “DJ” Jones is a musician and entrepreneur. He attended American University of Washington, D.C., where he was a Harry S. Truman Scholar.
