A Gulfport man has been charged with felony eluding after fleeing from police.

On Tuesday, Biloxi Police arrested 20 year-old, Daleatric Quarles on a charge of felony eluding and possession of a stolen firearm. He was taken to Harrison County jail and bond was set at $50,000.

Police received a call about a person with a firearm in the 1600 block of Irish Hill Drive. When they arrived, officers tried to make contact with a suspect sitting in a vehicle, but he fled, leading them on a high-speed chase.

When the pursuit reached the area of Iris Street and Greater Avenue, the suspect, identified as Quarles, fled on foot but was arrested later on Baker Street without incident.

During the investigation, an AR-15 style firearm recently reported stolen through Biloxi Police was recovered from the backyard of a residence in the area. The weapon had been used in vehicle burglary earlier in the month.
