Gulfport, Long Beach charge Gulfport pair in separate shootings

Gulfport Police announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with a Friday shooting in Gulfport, as well as a shooting at the Dollar General in Long Beach.

Police said 24-year-old Debarren Johnson and a minor, both of Gulfport, have been charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Both were taken to the Harrison County jail and bond was set at $500,000 each. The minor is being charged as an adult in Gulfport.

Gulfport Police were sent to a shooting complaint in the 1400 block of 42nd Avenue about 4:28 p.m. Friday. They learned that Johnson and the minor got out of their vehicle armed with weapons and fired them multiple times before fleeing.

They were later involved in the shooting at a Dollar General in Long Beach.

Johnson and the minor chased another vehicle, while shooting a firearm at the vehicle, striking it and injuring an occupant. Johnson and the minor also hit the business while firing at the vehicle in the 800 block of East Railroad Street.

Long Beach has charged Johnson and the minor with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of shooting into a building each. Their total bonds are $400,000 in Long Beach. The minor is being charged as an adult.
