Gulfport Little Theatre facing obstacles in upgrading
A mistake made years ago puts the Gulfport Little Theatre in need of help.
When looking to refinance the theatre building last year to help fund some upgrades, the team learned that the location had been zoned as a residential lot in the 70s rather than a commercial lot.
Due to this mistake, the theatre was unable to get the refinancing it needs. Currently, the theatre needs repairs to its roof, air conditioning, and needs electrical work done.
The team at the theatre is preparing to rezone so it can officially remortgage the building.
While the theatre waits, the team is looking for any help they can get from the community. Little Theatre Board of Directors Member Michael Petro said, “We’re not bankrupt. We’re not going away. We’re not giving up. We’ve been here for 76 years. We’re one of, if not, the oldest theatres on the Coast. We’ll be back to doing four to six shows, hopefully by at least the end of this year, and we’ll be up and running.”
