Gulfport’s Herbert T. Wilson ballpark, home to the 2023 South State Champion Gulfport Admirals, is getting a new concession stand and restroom – both built from shipping containers!

Bloxx Building, LLC announces that it has been contracted by the Big Blue Foundation to build these units for use by Gulfport High School’s athletic programs utilizing the Herbert Wilson complex.

After a major renovation of the baseball facilities at The Herb, the original concession stand and bathrooms were lost leaving fans to utilize the facilities at the softball field.

“We have one of if not the most impressive high school baseball and softball complex in the region.  As we looked towards building for the future, we wanted something that would not only add to the design of the complex, but would be sustainable and act as a gathering center for fans and teams as they enter the complex.  Frank Wilem, and the folks at Bloxx offered the perfect solution”, according to Darren Raybourn, President of the Big Blue Foundation.

The concession stand and restrooms will be built from two 8 foot by 40 foot single trip containers modified and designed to meet the needs of the complex and its fans.  Nestled between several majestic oaks, the new additions will offer an ideal gathering place for fans and teams while they enjoy the games.

“We’re pleased to help bring a new concession stand and bathroom to the Herbert Wilson ballpark.  Built from over 4 tons of steel and designed for a 25 year lifetime offshore, shipping containers offer a robust structure with minimal long term maintenance, and best of all, lower cost.   Recycling the containers makes good environmental sense and container-based units offer the advantage of portability when needed.  We hope to offer these same units to other ballparks in need of such affordable solutions” added Brittany Wilem Khaler, CEO of Bloxx Building.

“The Gulfport School District has a history of innovation and leading the way among our peers. This project checks all of the boxes for us. We get to put the final touches on our new baseball stadium with an outside the box, eco-friendly, budget-friendly and beautiful new concession and restroom facility that will serve the stakeholders of the Gulfport School District. On top of that, it demonstrates the ability of the Big Blue Foundation to provide major capital projects to the Gulfport Athletic Department. I could not be more excited to see the project come to fruition”, says Matt Walters, Gulfport Athletic Director.
