Gulfport High Student Receives Natl. Military Award
One Gulfport High School student was recognized Wednesday for his outstanding leadership in Gulfport’s J.R.O.T.C. program and other activities. Matthew Edwards received the American Legion Bronze Cross of Achievement. Edwards is involved with swim team, National Honor Society, Key Club, and participates with the J.R.O.T.C. rifle team.
Edwards says, “It’s based off leadership, not only in R.O.T.C., but in the school, in the community. So everything from sports to clubs to community service, to helping out, to overall leadership, it’s just all invoking everything you do, so you have to work hard in almost every single aspect of life.”
Edwards says while he doesn’t get much sleep, he enjoys all the activities he is a part of. Only six students throughout the country will receive this award.
