Gulfport High soccer team teaches it forward at camp

Gulfport High’s soccer team is pulling out the coaching gear this week and teaching some of the city’s youngest players the game.

High school players are teaching the camp at Herbert Wilson Stadium.

The goal is to teach the little guys the fundamentals of soccer.

They’re learning how to dribble, pass and shoot — while playing mini matches against each other.

About 25 boys are participating in the clinic.

Gulfport High senior Malcom Price says he enjoys giving the kids a positive environment to learn the game for the first time.

“I don’t think it gets more genuine than kids, you know what I’m saying?” Price said.

“When you see a kid, when you think about a kid you think about their heart being full and filled with joy… all these happy emotions, so when you’re getting them started early in soccer, I want there to be a happy memory or a happier recollection of soccer for them.”

The camp continues through the end of the week.
