Gulfport High School faculty learn fire safety
Gulfport High School is learning how to effectively put out a fire.
The Gulfport Fire Department spent the day at the school teaching everyone from custodians to the principal how to use a fire extinguisher.
Faculty learned the ‘PASS’ method, which stands for ‘pull, aim, squeeze, and sweep,’ while using props like refillable water fire extinguishers and fire props.
This equipment was paid for using a grant for Gulfport High School’s law and public safety class.
Jeremy Necaise is the instructor for that class and tells us why it was important to him that all faculty knows fire safety. “You know, it takes time for the fire department to respond, for police to respond. So, it’s essential for people and faculty and staff that are here at school to be trained on this. Because we’re here first, right? If something happens, we need to be able to act and know what to do when something like that happens.”
Students will also learn how to use a fire-extinguisher as well as spend time with the Gulfport Fire Department during the spring.
