Gulfport High School alum and current Seattle Seahawk Derick Hall ready to impact the community that raised him
Former Gulfport High School football star and current Seattle Seahawk Derick Hall was back in Harrison County on Thursday to spread the message of his One Percent Foundation in the first-ever community event held by the foundation.
“Like I have always said…if you love Gulfport, Gulfport will love you back.”
The foundation strives to combat childhood obesity, food insecurity, and support premature babies. Something that hits close to the Hall family as Derick was born four months early and was given just a 1% chance to live. While starting a foundation can be difficult at first, Hall has the foundation that he needs to do it the right way.
“I think Gulfport is home,” said Hall. “I know I am in Washington now – and people ask me are you going to live here when football is over? Yeah it is beautiful, but do I really want to live there ? No, I’m going home. I’m going back to Gulfport, Mississippi where I belong and where my roots are.”
