Gulfport High puts on Prom Promise safety demonstration

Wednesday morning, Gulfport High School held its annual Prom Promise where they staged a mock fatal car wreck before its upcoming prom.

Seniors in the school’s law and public safety class teamed up with Gulfport police and fire and rescue department. The focal point of the event was to draw students to the severity of what could happen driving impaired during prom season.

Those students shared their thoughts on the importance of the realistic enactment. Senior Ar’Jae Robinson said, “Have a way home don’t just think you’re okay, and drive home because nine times out of ten you’re not. That could be the outcome.”

Senior Cassidy Spann said, “All the resources, the fire department, police department everything and it’s a really special experience for me. I’m really glad to be part of it. At the end of the day, even if they don’t take it seriously now, we want this to be in the back of their minds if they ever come into a situation where they might think about drunk driving.”

“Don’t take it with a grain of salt, just make sure on prom night you go home safe.”

Gulfport High will have its prom this Saturday.
