Gulfport High dedicates track and field complex to Coach William ‘Prince’ Jones
Family and friends came together to honor William ‘Prince’ Jones as Gulfport High School dedicated their track and field complex to him Saturday.
Coach Jones is remembered as the legendary coach that brought the school 12 state championships.
Beyond his strict coaching skills that turned some individuals into Olympic medalists, he was also a fatherly figure to most, making sure his students were set up for success.
Coach Jones would buy a student a pair of running shoes or simply believe in them when they did not believe in themselves.
Gulfport High also surprised Coach Jones with multiple gifts and a gift card to play golf anytime he wants. Coach Jones said, “It makes me feel real good. I worked hard here. I enjoyed every minute of it, but I didn’t see this coming. I really enjoyed what they did for me. I think everything worked out real good. I’m just real enlightened that everybody came and I really appreciate that.”
Coach Jones coached at Gulfport High for 40 years and even though he retired in 2007, he continues to still make a positive impact, not only at the school, but in the community.
