Gulfport Harbor Lights Successful in First Year

The lights will be out at Jones Park tonight. Harbor Lights was cancelled due to the inclement weather.
That doesn’t dim the success the light show has had since its opening shortly after Thanksgiving. Over 40,000 people have come through to see the lights dance to the tunes of music. The show is new to the city of Gulfport but will be recurring for at least the next four years. The city agreed to a five year deal with a group from Atlanta responsible for putting on the holiday light show. City of Gulfport Public Information Officer Chris Vignes said, “It’s growing. We’re seeing people come nightly, returning. It’s a safe place for families and kids to come and enjoy. It’s just a wonderful atmosphere. Of course, with a first year event you learn things and we’re looking at things differently. But we’re very pleased with the layout. We have a hard working team that has gotten together. City of Gulfport staff has gone above and beyond and has made this something really special.”
Harbor Lights will not be open on Christmas Eve or Christmas. As for tomorrow night, the city will announce by 2 p.m. whether or not the show will go on.
