Gulfport, Hancock both getting loses for forfeited game on October 9th
The MHSAA has reversed course deciding to give losses to both Gulfport and Hancock for the October 9th game that was forfeited by both teams due to COVID-19.
Originally Gulfport was told that the winning team would be determined by MHSAA tie breaker rules, going to the team that fared better against the top competition in region 4 class 6A.
That drops the Admirals to 0-5 in district play this season with the Hawks falling to 1-4.
Still one week left in the regular season for the 4A-3A-2A classifications, but playoff scenarios already starting to take shape.
In region 7 class 4A, both Coast teams will be hosting in the first round with Poplarville atop the district and Stone landing the second seed.
In region 8, things pretty straightforward there as well with Moss Point locking up the district for the second year in a row and St. Stanislaus sliding in as the two-seed. The winner of Bay High and Vancleave will then take the three seed with the loser taking the four spot.
In region 8 class 2A, St. Patrick officially going to the playoffs and will be on the road, but could lock in the three seed with a win over Collins in its regular season finale.
