Gulfport Galleria of Fine Arts hosting ‘Master Pieces in May’ pop up show

Starting Friday, Coast residents will be able to feel like they’re strolling through some of Europe’s art galleries right here in Gulfport.

Local artists were prompted to copy old master pieces for the Gulfport Galleria of Fine Arts ‘Master Pieces in May’ pop up show.

Everything from Monet to Leonardo Da Vinci are represented in the show. However, depending on the artist’s interpretation, the famous works of art may have a slight twist.

Artist Anthony Difatta, who chose to copy one of Van Gogh’s popular sunflower paintings, says this was the hardest part about this artistic prompt. “Not throwing myself in it too much, which I kinda did at the end. It’s impossible not to, but strictly trying to stay with what the artist did and without fully knowing their process, how it was drawn out, how he painted.”

The show beings Friday at 5 p.m. and the art will be for sale at the gallery until June 5th.
