Gulfport Fire Update

Gulfport Fire officials say the fire that left dozens of residents at the South Point Apartment Complex without a home at last night, started in a kitchen.

Battalion Chief Chris Henderson says the fire began in the kitchen of one apartment on the second floor, then spread to another by an adjoining wall.

Although firefighters were able to contain the blaze in just 15 minutes, heat from the fire destroyed the main water line which caused substantial damage to multiple rooms. Three of which firefighters say are a complete loss.
