Gulfport Fire Department training new recruits

The Gulfport Fire Department’s recruit training is underway.

They had a guest this morning as New 25’s Lorraine Weiskopf decided to see if she had what it takes to be a future Gulfport firefighter.

After a long morning of wearing the over 50-pound gear and attempting their drills, it is safe to say she won’t be fighting fires near you any time.

If you’re interested in becoming a firefighter, don’t worry, there is quarterly testing. Training Chief Eric Valles said, “Definitely being able to help people through their worst day of their life. We see things you don’t typically see as an ordinary citizen. So, being able to help someone on the worst day of their life is by far the most rewarding part.”

To become one of Gulfport’s finest firefighters, visit their website at Gulfport-ms.gov for information on when they’ll have their next testing date.
