Gulfport Fire collecting for ‘Fill the Boot’
For 65 years, the Gulfport Fire Department has been helping ‘Fill the Boot’ for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
That’s why today until Wednesday you can see the firefighters, boots in hand, asking for donations at multiple intersections in the city. The last drive was held in 2017 and they raised $1,200.
The goal this year is to increase those funds significantly which is why, for the first time, they moved their efforts to the streets.
Each day they will be at the intersections of Highway 90 at Highway 49 and Three Rivers Road at Dedeaux Road from 7:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Gulfport Fire Battalion Chief Jason Edwards said, “That’s what we are. We are community servants and the reason that we are here is our job is to serve the public. So, whenever we are asked to do something, fundraisers or whatever it may be, we are glad to get out and help the community. We live in a great community. The people appreciate us so we appreciate them.”
The City of Biloxi is also a part of this campaign. They are also collecting tomorrow at the intersections of Cedar Lake at Popps Ferry tomorrow.
