Gulfport man dies after being hit trying to cross Mississippi 53
A Gulfport man died after he tried to cross Highway 53 on Friday.
Mississippi Highway Patrol reported that about 3 p.m., troopers responded to a fatal crash in Harrison County.
A 2003 Toyota Corolla driven by Byron Ladner, 18, of Pass Christian was traveling south on Highway 53 when his vehicle struck Lonny Higdon, 79, of Gulfport.
Higdon was trying to cross the highway when he was struck. He was airlifted to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
