Gulfport declares August 18th ‘Chief Leonard Papania Day’

Today, the mayor of Gulfport designated August 18th 2020 as Leonard Papania Day.

The former police chief announced his retirement at the end of 2019. He has served the community and been with the department for over 25 year.

Papania started his career with the Gulfport Police Department in 1991 and has served as chief since May 2013.

As he was loved by many in the community, Public Information Officer for the City of Gulfport LaShaundra McCarty said, “Everyone at the city will miss him, but wish him well during his retirement.”
