Gulfport councilwoman honored at Mississippi Municipal Hall of Fame
The City of Gulfport had an individual recognized at today’s Mississippi Municipal League Excellence Awards.
City Councilwoman Ella Holmes-Hines was inducted into the Mississippi Municipal Hall of Fame. Councilwoman Holmes-Hines was inducted for her 20 years of public service to the City of Gulfport.
The ward three councilwoman was not only the first African American elected in the City of Gulfport, but also the first woman. “This means a great deal for me to have this award, to go into the hall of fame. With that comes all of the kudos with how hard you work and I thank God for it,” said Holmes-Hines.
Holmes-Hines tells News 25 getting $18 million into the Bayou View West area after severe hurricane damage is one of her many accomplishments she’s most proud of.
