Gulfport councilman announces intention to resign seat

A Gulfport councilman has announced his intention to resign his Ward 5 seat.
Myles Sharp posted to social media on Tuesday that he will leave the city council because of a new job opportunity coming up in the new year.
He did not specify what the job is.
Sharp has not yet tendered his resignation and does not have a time frame as of yet.
The City Council can appoint a replacement councilman if the seat is vacant for less than six months. If it is more than six months, a special election could be called to fill the seat.
Municipal elections are next year with primaries on April 1st and the general on June 3rd. The new council terms begin on July 1st.
