Gulfport City Council Meeting
Gulfport city officials say the new housing program is proving successful and it’s the first one of its kind in Mississippi.
The Gulfport City Council announced the very first group of houses was approved to go through the Highway 90 Tax Abatement District Program today. The program will allow homeowners a seven year break on their taxes.
Passed a year ago, city officials say the program was created to give homebuilders and owners an incentive to build south of the railroad tracks.
The announcement was made at the Gulfport City Council meeting today. David Parker with Gulfport Economic Development said, “We’ve got other cities around the state that are wanting our information so they can see how we did this because it’s really starting to take off. We have 21 homes under construction right now which is a huge number, all south of the railroad tracks.”
The City Council also tabled further decisions on approving the contract for the aquarium.
